Fátima Báñez – Minister for Employment and Social Security.
María Fátima Báñez García is the current Minster of Employment and Social Security in Spain. She has been in the role since December 2011.
Born on 6th January 1967 in Huelva, Báñez studied Law and Economics before working as both a lawyer and an advisor for Radio Televisión Española in Andalusia.
She was first elected to the Congress of Deputies in 2000 as a representative of Huelva, and has been returned to the Parliament in each successive General Election since.
Within the Partido Popular she held the position of Coordinator of the Presidency of the Andalusian branch of the party.
On 22nd December 2011 she was invited by the newly elected Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, to form part of his first Government as Minister for Employment and Social Security.
