Pedro Morenés – Minister of Defence
Pedro Morenés y Álvarez de Eulate is the current Minister of Defence in the Spanish Government.
Born on 17th September 1948 in Guecho, Morenés studied Law and Business, and worked for many years in legal firms and the private sector.
After the election of the Partido Popular in 1996, the new Minister of Defence, Eduardo Serra Rexach, appointed Morenés as his Secretary of State for Defence matters, a position he held until the end of the mandate.
After the PP’s re-eletction in 2000, Morenés was named Secretary of State for Security in the Ministry of the Interior and subsequently between 2002 and 2004 he served as Secretary of State for Science and Technology.
With a change of Government in 2004, Morenés returned to the private sector. When the PP returned to power with a landslide victory in November 2011, the newly appointed Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, named Morenés as his Minister of Defence.
